Measurement is coming up and here in Texas, 4th graders convert customary units only! Hooray--in 5th, I taught customary and metric conversions, so this will be nice until the standards change again. ;)
Here's a little activity to spice up matching games in your classroom! This is for finding equal amounts in customary units!
I've spent way too long putting together Measurement is a Zoo, 70 pages devoted to customary conversions! This file is meant to introduce conversions before moving on to more rigorous word problems. I feel that students need some time to grasp the concept of conversions before you scare them off with the tricky problems!
Above is a picture of the Converting Length section. Each section (Length, Weight, Volume, and Time) has 4 teacher examples, 3 student worksheets, and a quick quiz with 1 problem. There are 2 strategies built in to teach conversions: conversion tables and The 5 Steps. Learning both helps students understand the way conversions work.
As pictured above, I included some activities that can be used in a variety of ways: posters, 8 word problem cards, and 28 matching cards! There is also an example page and worksheet called Tricky Zoo Time where students have to change things like...1 hour 35 minutes into 95 minutes.

Thanks for stopping by!
BTW...for scrolling down this far, you get to find out a little secret...
The first person to comment with their email address on this post will have Measurement is a Zoo! sent to them. I will do that from time to time so pay close attention!
