St. Patrick's Day Math Fun

I love St. Patrick's Day!  Last year, I spent it in New Orleans.  This year, it's March 17, the Sunday at the end of our Spring Break.  Convenient?  Maybe, maybe not.  :)
Anywho, I am ill at home for the day.  It was not a pretty morning for me, but I felt well enough this afternoon to laminate and cut out my St. Patrick's Day Math Centers.  There are 5 activities with a fun St. Patrick's Day theme!

I THINK I'm going to use these the day before we get out for Spring Break...it's an interesting day anyway, so these should keep the kiddos interested.  Here's what's in my new pack!

Luck o' the Irish
{word problems featuring facts about St. Pat's Day like how many people live in Ireland and how many gallons of green dye are dumped in the Chicago River}
 Over the Rainbow
{matching equivalent fractions}
 Shamrock Decimals
{ordering the four decimals on each shamrock}
 Leprechaun Combinations
{scenarios in which students find the possible number of combinations using 4 different strategies}
I KNOW my kiddos need to review this!
 Rainbow Operations
{multiplication and division problems and coloring in the rainbow}

Area, Perimeter, and Volume

Today, we started working on area, perimeter, and volume...well the area and perimeter part at least.  They seemed to have a decent grasp of which one is which when I gave them a rectangle or square (pic below) and asked them to find the area and perimeter.
So, we moved on to the fun stuff.  What if the length is 15 inches and the width is 4 feet?  Whatcha gonna do with that?  Luckily, they remember (or at least tricked me into thinking they remember) how to convert measurements, so it was okay.  Whew!
 The rest of the week, we will focus more on fancy word problems and situations with area and perimeter and the oh-so-fun volume.  At least we get to play with blocks build structures to build a concrete understanding of volume.

I have like ninety-five resources for A.P.V. to choose from finally, so I get to be picky.  My small groups are using the Perimeter and Area Intervention Pack and Volume Intervention Pack.  Click the pics to check them out.

The posters in the top pic are from Dots n Spots.  So cute!

I'm excited about Geometry!

I want to share what me and my bloggy friends have created that I'll be using to teach my students about geometry soon!  We're still all up in the middle of measurement, but geometry will be here before we know it.  Then, "The Test".  Dum dum dum.  A lot of geometry is about students feeling comfortable with the vocabulary and getting some hands-on experiences with 3-D shapes.

I am working to differentiate my math instruction more and more as I get used to teaching 4th grade, so I need a variety of activities to meet the needs of my students.

Anywho, here's what I have:

Types of Lines:
Molly from Elementary Lesson Plans has this super cute and educational activity to use as a differentiated activity for my higher students.
3-D Figures:
All of my students will be using this activity because there is FOOD!  I'm so excited about this.  If you click the pic, you can see Molly's blog post about this activity.
Vocabulary:
I L-O-V-E LOVE this lapbook from Amber Polk.  Click the pic to check out her post about it and find it!
This is another one from Amber Polk.  This is a great freebie for reviewing geometry vocabulary!
I downloaded and laminated this great freebie from Ashleigh a while back and I'm excited to use this as a review.
This is a super cute Geometry in a Book from Sarah at Resourceful Ragland.  She's a newer blogger, so be sure to show her some love.
Intervention:
My RTI group will be working through the 6 lessons in my Math Intervention: Geometry pack.
Enrichment:
My friend IRL at 4th Grade Racers has tons of enrichment choice boards and I plan on using this one for my higher up kids to reinforce what they know about geometric figures.
I hope I was able to help you a bit with your planning if you have not gotten to geometry yet!  I know I'm excited!
